Clare Stirling
Having spent many years in the fashion business, my main interest is in the human form, portrait sculpture, clothed, and nude figure studies.
I make most of my sculptures in clay, and when finished, a mould is made, before casting in plaster or bronze.
Patination is the final process, the finishing touch which brings the sculpture to life.
I also work directly with plaster on an armature, which renders a more spontaneous and abstract quality.
My work is always evolving, I love drawing, working in pastel, and charcoal, and I’m still a keen photographer, having worked as a professional fashion photographer in the past.
