Encounters and emotional connections are core preoccupations in my work. Drawing, in whatever medium, is the discipline that underpins it. Combining a woman’s close observation with experimentation and chance, I use traditional and digital materials to explore themes of personal presence, memory, identity, and life at the point of change. My practice explores the notion of trust in known skills and the value of play as a working method.
I’m essentially a people watcher and listener. I’m lucky enough to have close ties to two wonderful places – London and the west coast of Ireland. Both places gave me a love of people and their stories - these are often my inspiration.
I believe I make my best work when I get out of my own way- so I regularly use experimental techniques or unstable materials to kick-start things- breaking habits and confounding expectations is refreshing - it’s playtime with intent.
