The Late Matthew Lewin

Matthew Lewin is a former journalist, the editor of a local weekly newspaper  before he retired in 2000.  He tried a variety of retirement occupations but in the end rediscovered a long dormant desire to work with wood.

He started making coffee tables in a tiny garage in Muswell Hill, but moved  to a larger studio in Artspace II about four or five years ago — and his little one-man business (called Handmade in Hardwood) has since expanded considerably.

He makes everything from full size dinner tables to “leaning” shelving units and desks, folding tables, garden furniture, beautiful hardwood cutting boards — and little gadgets to hold oysters when you try to open them.
